TO BECOME A NOTARY PUBLIC IN LAKE COUNTY, OH: 1.) You must be a legal resident of Lake County 2.) You must be registered
to vote in your correct name at your present address. For
information on voter registration, please call the Lake County Board of
Elections at 350-2700 or 918-2700. 4.) If you have ever been convicted of a crime, your application MAY be rejected. YOU MUST PROVIDE A COPY OF THE CHARGE AND DISPOSITION BEFORE YOU MAY TAKE THE NOTARY TEST. If you meet these qualifications, you must apply IN PERSON at the Lake County Bar Office, located on the second floor of the Courthouse West Annex in downtown Painesville. Hours for application are Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. ONLY. The application process takes about 15 minutes, so please allow yourself enough time. Applications cannot be made by mail, nor can anyone else pick up the application for you. Bring a pen, a picture ID such as a driver's license, and the names and HOME addresses of two (2) personal references (not related to you) when you apply. The application fee is $32.00 and includes a notary study book and the notary test. This fee must be paid at the time of application and may be in cash or a check made payable to "The Lake County Bar Association".
